Chair - opens the session

One of The Turing Way team members will open the panel, welcoming the audience, introducing The Turing Way and the Fireside Chat, and setting the norm (Code of Conduct [CoC], Etherpad, chat, question process). They’ll thank the co-hosts and pass the ‘mic’ to them. Here is a suggested script. Norm setting here means, making sure that the opening script includes these details:

Co-hosts - facilitate the session

Co-hosts are invited to co-design the event with one of The Turing Way team members. They enable a discussion that does not look for answers or solutions but creates shared opportunities for members from different communities to explore a topic or challenge from their contexts. If there are solutions available, that is great! But that is not the goal. The hope is that these discussions will stimulate ideas for collaboration beyond the Fireside Chats. We have 2 hosts for each session to allow hosts to also address questions, as well as share tasks such as coordinating with the speakers or monitoring questions.

Speakers - guide the discussion

We host 5-6 speakers in the panel, which includes the facilitators. It is important to note that Fireside Chats don’t have the traditional role of facilitators versus speakers. Facilitators are invited based on their experience on the topic and they also respond to questions, adding to the discussion from their experiences.
